+ The Beginning
I've been involved in web site design, development
and promotion since 1996, when I designed, developed and promoted
two sites for my parents that became successful e-commerce enterprises.
Since those early days, I realized the tremendous potential the
web has as an information and marketing medium. I also realized
that many small businesses don't take advantage of the web because
of the sometimes costly start-up expenses of developing an online
presence.
+ Experience
I graduated to a higher level of development
upon moving to New York City in the fall of 1999, where I began
working with Tabletools.com.
At the time only a vision, Tabletools.com has grown into a leading
online housewares retailer. The time spent working on the Tabletools.com
site provided me with not only more design and information architecture
experience, but experience with true database-driven e-commerce.
When Tabletools.com moved offices to California, I decided to stay
in New York. With the wealth of experience gained I began my freelance
career, while also continuing to work with Tabletools.com. As a
freelancer, I have had the opportunity to work on projects of varying
scope, each presenting a new challenge and opportunity to learn.
I am currently teaching a class at the Fashion Institute of Technology titled
Putting Up a Business Ready Website. This class has enabled me to share my
knowledge with a wide range of students, hopefully enriching their understanding
of what is required to build a website. I try to give the class a complete picture
of the many solutions available, so they can make an informed decision about launching their web presence.
